Maureen Taylor specializes in complex contract business disputes, complex UCC, product liability, and wrongful death matters involving automotive components, industrial products, child safety restraints, power tools, and other products. She has successfully represented numerous Fortune 500 automotive suppliers in supply chain disputes, involving warranty claims, contract and supply disputes and related recall and cost recovery claims. Ms. Taylor has handled and achieved many successful outcomes for national and international corporations in complex litigation in state and federal courts across the country. Ms. Taylor has been identified as a dBusiness Top Lawyer and a Michigan Super Lawyer, and one of the Top Women Attorneys in Michigan in Business and Commercial Litigation.

Before joining Brooks Wilkins Sharkey & Turco, she was a shareholder at Butzel Long and was in the litigation group at Jones Day.

Recent Experience Includes

  • Obtained dismissal of breach of contract and equitable claims for foreign Tier I automotive company based on forum selection clause and forum non conveniens in EDMI
  • Obtained grant of motion to dismiss company in international tort action alleging product malfunction
  • Obtained dismissal of foreign product manufacturers based on lack of personal jurisdiction in Michigan and Texas state courts
  • Regional counsel for leading tire manufacturer in catastrophic product liability/personal injury cases
  • Obtained summary judgment for a major tire manufacturer in product liability action
  • Defended tire manufacturer in lawsuit, obtaining elimination of strict liability, breach of warranty and punitive damages claims
  • Obtained numerous injunctions in state and federal courts on behalf of Tiered suppliers involving various automotive components
  • Represented prior owner of wind farm in connection with a nuisance lawsuit filed by 20 landowners in Huron County, MI, obtaining favorable settlement at conclusion of case evaluation
  • Obtained summary judgment on behalf of defendant designer of brake controller in product liability action
  • Obtained voluntary dismissal on behalf of tire manufacturer in product liability action after FRCP 26 conference
  • Successfully argued and obtained affirmance of district court dismissal of 4th and 14th Amendment violation claims before the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cleary v County of Macomb, et al., Case No. 09-1441 (6th Cir. Feb. 2, 2011)
  • Successfully argued and obtained reversal of trial court’s denial of summary judgment of fraud claims before Michigan Court of Appeals in commercial dispute between tiered suppliers
  • Obtained Summary Judgment, Default Judgment and Sanctions against Defendant for fraud and electronic discovery abuses in one of the first decisions by any Federal Court after the enactment of the new Court Rules dealing with electronic discovery.   • Obtained voluntary dismissal on behalf of pharmaceutical company in product liability action after filing summary judgment motion
  • Obtained voluntary dismissal on behalf of garage door manufacturer in product liability action after filing summary judgment motion
  • National representation of major Tier One automotive chassis component manufacturers in defense of ABS and steering system product liability litigation
  • Member of a punitive damages trial team defending a manufacturer in a product liability class action brought on behalf of over 500,000 plaintiffs
  • Represented clients in numerous contract and warranty lawsuits, and provided pre-litigation avoidance consultations and negotiations
